AGD Moderate Sedation Task Force - Conference 1 (Tentative)

Charge: 1.) Study the ADA 2016HOD Resolution 37 educational standards and capnography mandate; 2.) Study the AAPDpolicy on anesthesia; 3.) Make arecommendation/tool kit that our membership will utilize in the areas ofincreased educational requirements, capnography mandate, and others inadvocating to state/regulatory boards; 4.) Make arecommendation on the AGD devising an AGD white paper on moderate sedation; 5.) Submit an articlefor publication to AGD Communications Department. Timeline: Report submitted to 2016-2017 BoardMeeting III (materials due Feb 10 – consult with Dr. Smith for a deadlineextension) What has been accomplished thus far? ·As many of you know, the AGD Dental Practice Council and the AGDProfessional Relations Council have been immersed in this issue for just overtwo years, and I am pleased to inform you that they have completed Item 1,as well as, in large part, Item 2, of the charge, and have published anImpact article on resolution 37 and its effects, along with other articlesthrough AGD’s other paper and electronic publications targeted to varyingaudiences (Item 5 of the charge). ·Additionally, the AGD Legislative & Governmental Affairs(LGA) Council and Dental Practice Council have developed a set of talkingpoints addressing the ask of Item 3 of the charge, i.e., to advocate atthe state level on the issue, and, on Jan. 14, resolved to disseminatethe talking points ASAP for AGD state constituents to address the sedationguidelines changes before their state dental boards. ·The AGD has yet to tackle Item 4 of this task force’scharge, which is to make a recommendation on devising an AGD white paper onsedation, except for a recommendation of the AGD Dental Practice Council todevelop clinical practice guidelines on sedation but only if an interestedsponsor could be secured; the latter recommendation died for lack of a sponsorto fund the effort.
